SYSWERX LLC is a South Carolina company. It builds one thing: research security software that a university office can defend, line by line, to a researcher, to counsel and to a sponsor.
What we build
Research security offices are asked to do a great deal with a small team: screen collaborators and new hires, answer sponsors, run a foreign travel program, keep every decision on record and show leadership that the program works. SYSWERX puts that work in one place.
- Screening. One researcher or a whole roster, with or without an ORCID iD, becomes a cited record: every finding traced to the paper or record behind it and to the government list that names the entity.
- Network analysis. The whole collaboration graph, grouped by institution, showing exactly how a researcher reaches each listed entity, and which ties count and which are only context.
- Case management. Triage, findings, requests and referrals, sign-off with a written rationale, and an audit trail that proves itself.
- Program. Foreign travel from disclosure to debrief, the training and reporting NSPM-33 asks for, and templates for the policies behind them.
How we think about it
A number is not an answer. When someone asks why a researcher was flagged, the office needs to point at a source. So SYSWERX is built on a few fixed commitments:
- Fixed, documented rules. Every finding comes from a rule you can read, not from a model's guess. The same facts and the same lists give the same answer, every time.
- Every point cited. To the paper or record behind it, and to the government list that names the entity.
- Never a person's background. Nationality, ethnicity, national origin and name are never scoring factors. SYSWERX screens ties to listed entities, not people.
- Never a clearance, never a verdict. A clean result is never presented as a clearance, and a flag is never a finding of wrongdoing. Every result is a prioritization aid for a qualified person to review.
- A decision on record. Every case closes with a written rationale, its approvals and a tamper evident history.

Research security officers and the offices they work with: export control, sponsored programs, research integrity, conflict of interest and counsel, at universities, national laboratories and research institutions. Most of them run programs under NSPM-33 and the agency rules that follow from it; the guides on this site explain those rules in plain words.
How we work with you
SYSWERX is sold the way research security programs are run: with a conversation first. We walk your office through a live screening, a case and the case file it produces, then set up your team's workspace ourselves. Accounts are issued by invitation; there is no public sign up and nothing to install. Quotes go out in writing to the office that asks.
Who is behind it
